The Author regrets that an error occurred in this article. The error occurred on Page 27, under the section “The role of nursing in the subordination of midwifery”, at the beginning of the second paragraph, the incorrect century was cited. The corrected sentence follows:

Over the first 30 years of the 20th century the Australian Trained Nurses Association, (ATNA) used medicine as a model of how to professionalise.
