Professor Deborah Davis (BN, MNS, PhD) is Clinical Chair and Professor of Midwifery; a joint appointment with ACT Government, Health Directorate and the Faculty of Health in the University of Canberra. Professor Davis is a midwife with an extensive career in clinical practice (midwifery led, continuity models of care), midwifery education and research. She is also active in the profession serving four years on the Board of Directors for the Australian College of Midwives, two of those as Vice President. Professor Davis is committed to improving maternity services for childbearing women through midwifery education, research and service development. She has contributed chapters to preeminent midwifery text books, co-developed the world’s first midwifery MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on evidence based practice, published extensively in scholarly journals and plays a leadership role in service development in the ACT. Professor Davis’ research interests focus on promoting wellness in childbearing women using salutogenic approaches, particularly in relation to birth environment and weight gain in pregnancy.
