Dr Andrea Gilkison is a Senior lecturer in midwifery and Associate Head of Postgraduate studies in the School of Clinical Sciences at AUT. She is a director of AUT’s Centre for Midwifery and Women’s Health Research and a principle researcher in a number of projects which focus on midwifery education and the sustainability of midwifery practice. Andrea is committed to contributing to the quality of midwifery care provided to women and babies in New Zealand and internationally. She is a consultant for the BRAC University Developing Midwives project which involves developing the midwifery programme and the capacity of midwifery educators in Bangladesh.

Andreas contribution to midwifery has been focussed towards developing high quality midwifery undergraduate and postgraduate education programmes and research which ultimately enhance the quality of care provided to women, babies and their families. She is Co-editor of the New Zealand College of Midwives Journal and current Chair of the Trans-Tasman Midwifery Education consortium.
